In the Donetsk region, the execution of a Ukrainian soldier taken prisoner by the Russian military is being investigated, reported the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office on Thursday, writes UNN.

On July 13, 2026, at 14:42, in the area of the village of Yalta, Komarsk rural hromada, representatives of the Russian Armed Forces took a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine prisoner. After interrogation, one of the occupiers ordered the execution of the Ukrainian defender, and another shot him with a firearm

- reported the prosecutor's office.

Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in criminal proceedings regarding the commission of a war crime resulting in the death of a person (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

"Currently, urgent investigative (search) actions are being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the event and the persons involved in the commission of this crime from among the servicemen of the Russian Federation," the statement reads.

"The killing of prisoners is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime," the prosecutor's office emphasized.
