The crowd that gathered on Saturday around the National Assembly of South Korea to demand the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeon exploded with anger after the impeachment motion was canceled due to lack of quorum, reports UNN with reference to Ryonhap.
"Impeach him!" one protester shouted, while others blamed the ruling People's Power Party (PPP) for the result.
Earlier in the day, the National Assembly held a plenary session to vote on a motion to impeach Yun because of his declaration of martial law earlier this week.
Although all 192 opposition deputies and only three PNP deputies voted, the proposal did not gain the necessary quorum of 200 votes due to the boycott of the ruling PNP.
During the plenary session, people lined up in columns and headed to the walls of the Assembly building to surround it in protest, calling on lawmakers to vote for the impeachment of the president.
Some of them moved to the side gate of the complex amid rumors that PNP lawmakers may leave the Assembly from there.
Hundreds of thousands of people gathered outside the National Assembly on Saturday, filling the streets in the area and demanding Yoon's impeachment.
Some tried to climb over the wall of the Assembly complex or police barricades, but were dissuaded by others who called for a "peaceful" rally.
