The pro-government Georgian Dream party plans to ban covering your face and wearing masks at rallies and actions. This was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, noting that the relevant law will be adopted, writes SOVA, reports UNN.
"We will adopt a law that will prohibit participants of the rally, in particular participants of the counter-rally, from covering their faces with various means," Kobakhidze said.
According to him, this ban will help prevent violence during rallies.
"Such laws are in force in many EU member states, and it is important to adopt such laws to prevent violence. We will technically organize everything so that the relevant law is adopted before the end of next week. And that this law should be fully implemented by the end of the month," the prime minister said.
Continuing to answer questions about the ban on masks at rallies, Kobakhidze cited Germany as an example.
"No one will die (from running gas at rallies - Ed.). For example, in Germany, participants of meetings are forbidden to cover their faces - because when you go in masks, you <...> you create serious risks, because it is difficult for the Ministry of internal affairs to react later, identify rapists, <...>. If you do not show violence, there will be no suffocating gas or water (from a water cannon - Ed.). If you had not shown violence, there would have been neither the first nor the second," the prime minister said.
Kobakhidze also condemned the attack on the TV Pirveli film crew and other journalists on the scene.
"It is difficult to react in this situation - everyone goes in masks," who is not lazy", to put it in jargon. And the place has this kind of violence. There are a lot of people in masks, and it is difficult for the interior ministry to react to these facts: it is impossible to make out who is the protesters and who is not," the head of government said.
