"Fraudsters use artificial intelligence tools in fraudulent schemes. Using AI, fraudsters can fake your photos, videos, and even your voice. Here's how it works: fraudsters hack into messenger accounts and ask to borrow money from friends of the account owner," the State Service of Special Communications reports.

But to be more convincing, according to the agency, fraudsters send voice messages by cloning a person's voice with artificial intelligence, using recordings that the person previously sent in chats.

It is noted that this makes them more convincing, and potential victims may truly believe that they are helping their friend.

In , the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine shows how to protect yourself:

  • Call your friend back or ask them something that only the two of you can know, it can be a simple question like “how did we meet?"
  • To protect your page from hacking, set up two-factor authentication.
