In Kyiv, a pediatrician at a capital hospital will stand trial for failing to diagnose pneumonia in an 8-year-old girl – the child died, UNN reports with reference to the Prosecutor General's Office.
Juvenile prosecutors of the Obolon District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv have sent an indictment to court regarding a former doctor of the admissions department of a children's hospital
Details
According to the investigation, during the initial examination, the 8-year-old girl was not diagnosed with pneumonia, which was already developing.
The child was brought to the medical facility by an ambulance crew with complaints that could indicate a serious respiratory system affection. However, the doctor diagnosed an acute respiratory disease and prescribed basic treatment without conducting the necessary diagnostics. A few hours later, the child's condition deteriorated sharply. The girl was transferred to intensive care in a state of clinical death, but she could not be saved. The forensic examination established that the cause of death was viral-bacterial sepsis, which developed against the background of purulent pneumonia
The investigation believes that the improper performance of professional duties by the doctor is in a direct causal link with the death of the child. Her actions are qualified under Part 2 of Art. 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The case has now been submitted to court. The accused no longer works in the hospital's admissions department.
