As of July 1, 2024, Ukrainians' bank deposits amounted to UAH 1.7 trillion.

As of July 1, 2024, banks had UAH 1.7 trillion on deposit, most of them in hryvnia. This was stated by economic expert Oleksandr Okhrimenko in an exclusive commentary to UNN.

We have the latest operational data: as of July 1, 2024, the total amount of deposits placed by households in banks is UAH 1.7 trillion. Most of the deposits are in hryvnia

- Okhrimenko said.

According to him, in Ukraine, about 80% of deposits  are placed in hryvnia, and 20% are in foreign currency, usually in dollars.

Referring to official data, Okhrimenko noted that in 6 months of 2024, the total amount of hryvnia deposits of the population increased by almost 15% compared to last year. "This is a very good indicator, which shows that the population has money, the population brings money to the bank and actively places (deposits - ed.). Yes, the interest on deposits is always small, people want more," the expert added.

According to him, Ukrainians place most of their deposits in state-owned PrivatBank and Oschadbank.

Okhrimenko also reminded that Ukraine has a 100% deposit protection guarantee. "That is, even if a small bank goes bankrupt, the Deposit Guarantee Fund will pay 100% of the deposits in foreign currency and hryvnia. But we have not had any problems with banks recently," Okhrimenko said.
