After the Estlink-2 cable was damaged, Estonia strengthens critical infrastructure protection.

Estonia is stepping up protection of critical infrastructure following damage to the Estlink-2 submarine power cable. The government has sent a patrol ship to protect the Estlink-1 cable connecting Estonia to Finland. Writes UNN with reference to MSN.

After the Estlink-2 power cable broke on December 25, Estonia sent a patrol ship to protect the Estlink-1 submarine cable connecting the country to Finland.

"The main thing is deterrence, so that the ships operating there know that they are under constant surveillance and that if at any time we find that someone wants to anchor somewhere in the water or we see something suspicious going on, we will be able to react," said Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.

He noted that in the face of possible deployment of troops by neighboring countries, the speed of response, rather than waiting for a decision from NATO, is crucial.

Recall

One of the two power cables between Estonia and Finland has failed.

The Eagle S is suspected of damaging the Estlink 2 power transmission cable. This vessel is widely believed to be part of Russia's shadowy fleet of tankers that transport oil and gas in violation of international sanctions imposed because of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
