Earthquake in Taiwan: more than a thousand injured reported

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Taiwan has killed 10 people and injured 1,067, and hundreds of people are still trapped by debris and potential landslides.

The number of injured as a result of a strong earthquake off the coast of Taiwan has risen to 1,067, and ten people have died. Reuters reports this with reference to government officials, UNN writes.

According to authorities, the death toll from the quake  has risen to 10, and the number of injured is 1,067. Most of the 50 or so hotel workers who were stranded on the highway and headed to a resort in the national park have been found.

But 660 people are still stranded, most of them in hotels in the park, the road to which was cut off by the earthquake. 

The Ministry of Agriculture urged people to stay away from the mountains due to the risk of falling rocks and the formation of "barrier lakes" as water accumulates behind the debris.

On Wednesday, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Taiwan. The entire island was shaken violently.
