According to sources of the agency, DOGE is monitoring at least one of the federal agencies. In its work, the Department team also actively uses the Grok chat bot, which is owned by Musk's company.
For internal communication, DOGE employees use the encrypted messenger Signal. It was through this application that officials from the Trump administration discussed attacks on Yemeni Houthis in a closed chat. The leak of information from it caused a high-profile scandal - five officials were sued.
The White House, DOGE and Musk himself did not respond to requests from the publication for comment.
According to Reuters, at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), some managers were informed that Musk's team is using AI to monitor employees, including to identify statements that may be considered "hostile" to Trump or Musk.
According to two sources familiar with the situation, officials appointed by Trump and transferred to work at the EPA informed managers that the DOGE team is using AI to monitor official communication applications, including Microsoft Teams, which is widely used for video communications and chats.
