The oil painting, created by artist Sarah Boardman, was funded by a GoFundMe campaign and has been on display since 2019. The portrait was funded by a GoFundMe campaign organized by former Colorado Senate President Kevin J. Grantham in 2018, which raised over $10,000 at the time.
Trump's reaction
On March 23 of this year, Trump took to Truth Social with a complaint, stating that the painting depicted him incorrectly.
Nobody likes a bad photograph or painting of themselves, but the photograph in Colorado, in the State Capitol, which was hung by the governor along with all the other presidents, was deliberately distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before. The artist also painted President Obama, and he looks great, but the one of me is really the worst. With age, she must have lost her talent. In any case, I would rather not have a photograph than have this one
In his post, Trump noted that many Colorado residents had contacted him, expressing dissatisfaction with the portrait.
