Donald Trump called for the removal of his portrait in the Colorado Capitol, calling it deliberately distorted. The state governor reacted with surprise.

Donald Trump took to Truth Social to call for the removal of his portrait in the Colorado State Capitol, claiming it was "deliberately distorted." UNN reports this with reference to ABC News.

Details

The oil painting, created by artist Sarah Boardman, was funded by a GoFundMe campaign and has been on display since 2019. The portrait was funded by a GoFundMe campaign organized by former Colorado Senate President Kevin J. Grantham in 2018, which raised over $10,000 at the time.

Trump's reaction

On March 23 of this year, Trump took to Truth Social with a complaint, stating that the painting depicted him incorrectly.

Nobody likes a bad photograph or painting of themselves, but the photograph in Colorado, in the State Capitol, which was hung by the governor along with all the other presidents, was deliberately distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before. The artist also painted President Obama, and he looks great, but the one of me is really the worst. With age, she must have lost her talent. In any case, I would rather not have a photograph than have this one

- wrote the US president.

In his post, Trump noted that many Colorado residents had contacted him, expressing dissatisfaction with the portrait.

In fact, they are really angry about it!

- he wrote, adding that he was speaking on their behalf and calling on Governor Jared Polis to remove it.

In 2019, the artist told The Denver Post that it was important for her that leaders look apolitical, as the gallery of presidents tells the story of the nation, not of one president.

In today's environment, it's all very open, but in five, 10, 15 years, he will be just another president on the wall. And he should look neutral

- she added.

State Governor's Response

The Governor of Colorado expressed surprise at Mr. Trump's interest in art. The Governor's office responded by issuing the following statement to several publications:

The State Capitol was completed in 1901, featuring pink onyx and white Yule marble quarried in Colorado, as well as portraits of former presidents and former governors. We appreciate the President's and everyone's interest in our Capitol building and are always looking for any opportunity to improve our visitor experience

- he said.

Recall

Earlier, UNN wrote that the White House is looking for corporate sponsors to pay for Easter, with contributions ranging from $75,000 to $200,000. Attracting sponsors is an unprecedented offer from the White House.
