Deloitte: Ukrainians started saving more and shopping less often

In 2023, Ukrainians continue to save. Depending on the type of product, from 41% to 77% of Ukrainian citizens choose to save.

This is stated in a study by Deloitte, UNN reports.

In 2023, the trend of saving among Ukrainian consumers remains relevant. From 41% to 77% of Ukrainians, depending on the category of goods, choose to save money. Although these figures remain high, there is a positive trend compared to 2022 (47%-86%).

The lowest savings are made on medicines, goods for children, and prepared foods. As for food, which accounts for a significant share of Ukrainians' expenditures, 32% of consumers increased their spending in this segment. A significant number of Ukrainians (47%) buy food and medicines (43%) in advance. There is a significant difference in the average check per visit to a store among different age groups.

Young people aged 18-27 spend the most, with an average check of UAH 1,075 in 2023. This figure decreased by 22% compared to 2022 (UAH 1,380). At the same time, the trend of decreasing average check with increasing age of respondents remains relevant.

In terms of regional distribution, residents of the eastern and northern regions of Ukraine tried to save the most - 81% and 72% respectively. In the western regions, 64% of respondents felt this need.
