Members of the Bundestag have voted to dissolve the German government. The country will hold early elections in the near future. This was reported by UNN with reference to Deutsche Welle.
Details
The vote on government confidence was attended by 733 members of the Bundestag. Before the vote, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and party leaders exchanged accusations.
The leader of the Alternative for Germany party, Alice Weidel, said that after the rule of the "traffic light coalition," Germans will have to recover for a long time.
394 MPs voted in favor of dissolving the government and holding new elections, which are likely to take place on February 23 next year. This required at least 367 votes.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier must approve this decision within three weeks. He can also leave Scholz in office and allow him to run the country with a minority government, but analysts believe this is unlikely.
Such votes of confidence in the chancellor have been held in Germany only five times.
