The British Ministry of Defense in a report based on intelligence data assessed the quality of the Russian army after 1000 days of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine and noted that the loss of more than 700,000 killed and wounded sharply undermined the quality of the troops, but the occupiers' advance accelerated by 2024, UNN reports.

British intelligence notes that before the invasion of Ukraine, Russia tried to create a modern, professional armed forces capable of performing complex operations. But, according to the report, after 1,000 days of war, the Russian ground forces are radically different from those that initially invaded Ukraine.
"Russian losses of over 700,000 killed and wounded have sharply undermined the quality of the Russian military. The majority of soldiers currently serving in the Russian army have received minimal training, and Russian commanders have used basic advance tactics despite the associated high casualty rates," British intelligence informs.
It is noted that Russia has lost at least 3,500 main battle tanks and 7,500 armored vehicles. Large stockpiles of tanks and armored vehicles inherited from the Soviet Union were the only means by which russia was able to replenish these heavy losses, the report says.
"Despite the costs imposed on its ground forces, Russia's territorial progress in Ukraine accelerated by 2024. This was facilitated by the Russian leadership's tolerance for losses and the numerical superiority of Russian ground forces over the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The front line is now less stable than at any time since the full-scale war," British intelligence said.
