Folklore is an important element of the cultural and historical heritage of any nation in the world. And the International Folklore Day serves as a means of raising awareness of the folklore traditions of different countries.

August 22  is also "Take Your Cat to the Vet Day". The event was launched in the United States  and has gained popularity in many countries around the world.

According to statistics, 38% of people who keep cats experience stress just thinking about visiting the vet, so they often put off this visit.

Therefore, the main goal of today's event is to remind cat owners of the need for preventive examinations of their pets.

Today is also World Plant Milk Day, which aims to show people the benefits of plant milk over animal milk.

According to statistics, about 65% of the world's population is congenitally lactose intolerant. Drinking regular milk can cause gastrointestinal illnesses, joint aches, and even depression.

Vegetable milk is made from soy, hemp, oats, cashews and other crops, and does not contain lactose. It is richer in vitamins and minerals, and even tastes better than animal milk.

Another gastronomic holiday today is Jollof Rice Day.

Jollof is a dish of rice, tomatoes, peppers, and onions served with meat or fish. Jollof is actually a national dish in West Africa. Moreover, in each country, housewives have their own cooking secrets.

The celebration of World Jollof Rice Day is a testament to the cultural significance of the dish and its unifying power among different African peoples. In West African countries, culinary competitions are even organized to cook the best jollof rice.

Since 1996, Ukraine has been honoring the memory of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

During the years of independence and before the start of full-scale Russian aggression in Ukraine, 1671 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty.

Since February 24, 2022, according to unofficial data, more than 60 law enforcement officers have been killed in hostilities, shelling, and rocket attacks.

At the initiative of the United Nations, events are being held on August 22 to mark the International Day of Remembrance of Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.

The event was launched to draw public attention to people who suffer from bullying and injustice because of their religious beliefs and to continue the search for effective ways to counteract religious violence.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Martyrs Agathonikos, Severian and others.

Agathonikus was a preacher in Nicodemus and converted many people to faith in Jesus Christ. As the persecution of Christians intensified, Agathonikus and his disciples Severian, Zoticus, Theoprepius, Aquindinus, and many others were captured, tortured, and executed.

Anton, Serhii, Fedir, Vasyl, and Makar celebrate their name days on August 22.
