The epicenter was located in San José del Palmar, approximately 400 kilometers west of the Colombian capital, Bogotá.
The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.6 and that its focus was at a depth of 79 km, adding that it had contacted local authorities to assess potential damage, Reuters reports. According to some estimates, the earthquake's magnitude reached 7.4.
