On Thursday, August 8, a Ukrainian doctor from Odesa, Vitaliy Slavnov, died as a result of a piece of cornice falling from a building in Prague. This was reported by Radio Prague, according to UNN.
"During a very heavy rainstorm and wind, a piece of the cornice fell off the historic building, pierced the glass roof of the bus stop and fatally injured a man who was under it. The man died on the spot from the head injury," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the deceased was a Ukrainian doctor Vitaliy Slavnov. The man's death was also confirmed by his friend Alexander Slemzin on Facebook.
"One of the hardest days of my life. Today, my recently found friend, Vitaliy Slavnov, died a senseless death," the man wrote.
The newspaper adds that firefighters checked the reliability of the facade to prevent other parts of it from falling. As a result, they dismantled about 100 kilograms of unstable material from the cornice, which could have also collapsed. The police have launched an investigation into the incident as negligent homicide.
