In the center of Odesa, a drunken man beat a tram driver and damaged it, police notified him of suspicion of hooliganism, the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region reported on Wednesday, UNN reports.

The incident took place in late February in the afternoon on Preobrazhenskaya Street.

According to the police, the drunken man began to disorderly behave in the interior of the moving tram, where he unreasonably harassed passengers and swore at them.

At the bus stop, the offender ran out into the street, broke the door window and the rearview mirror of the vehicle, causing almost UAH 4,000 in damage, the police said.

"The driver of the electric vehicle got out from behind the wheel and made a remark to the rowdy, to which he hit her and began pulling her clothes. The woman fell down, and the man sprayed pepper spray in her face," the police said.

The victim sought medical assistance. She suffered a first-degree chemical burn of the conjunctiva of her eyes and abrasions of her shins, which, according to the expert opinion, are light bodily injuries.

The defendant was served a notice of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - hooliganism. The offender faces up to seven years in prison for the crime.
