The National Bank of Ukraine has put into circulation a new commemorative coin “Barrier-Free” with a face value of 5 hryvnias. The coin was presented today by NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi during a meeting of the Business Without Barriers community, which was attended by First Lady Olena Zelenska, UNN reports citing the NBU.
Details
It is noted that in April 2021, the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Space in Ukraine was adopted. This document became the leitmotif of the beginning of large-scale changes in Ukraine. It is designed to last until 2030 and provides for the elimination of six types of barriers: physical, social and civil, digital, information, educational, and economic.
Presenting the coin, Andriy Pyshnyi spoke about the NBU's efforts to create the most inclusive financial system in the world.
We simply have no choice but to build a society without barriers. After all, modern Ukraine is a country of heroes and veterans. And together we will definitely overcome this path, the main thing is to implement the principles of equality and barrier-free accessibility in the financial system step by step, without stopping, every day. To celebrate Ukraine's progress in building an inclusive society, we have created a special commemorative coin. We dedicated it to the entire community that embodies the philosophy of barrier-free accessibility, who builds a society without restrictions, where everyone, regardless of age, gender, health status, ethnicity or social status, has equal opportunities for development and self-realization
The obverse of the coin features a stylized image of a bird with an artificial mechanical wing (prosthesis) in the center, symbolizing freedom, indomitable spirit and the ability to overcome space without obstacles.
The reverse of the coin features a stylized image of different people united in a circle: parents, children, the elderly, people using wheelchairs, people with prosthetics, and pet owners. This composition symbolizes diversity and barrier-free access, emphasizing the unity and inclusiveness of society.
The commemorative coin “Barrier-Free” was put into circulation on December 23, 2024. It has a face value of 5 hryvnias and is made of nickel silver. The mintage is up to 30,000 pieces in souvenir packaging. The commemorative coin will be available for purchase at the NBU's online numismatic products store, as well as at distributor banks.
