On August 5, and in some regions on August 10, a ban on crayfish fishing comes into effect. The ban will last until September 20. This is reported by the State Fisheries Agency, UNN reports.

"In order to preserve and protect the crayfish population during their second molt, during which they are most vulnerable, a ban on fishing for these river inhabitants will be in place from August 5 to September 20 in the vast majority of fisheries in Ukraine. At the same time, we would like to draw fishermen's attention to the fact that the ban will begin on August 10 in the water bodies of Mykolaiv region and in the Dnipro-Bug estuary system of Kherson region," the statement said.

It is noted that in the Transcarpathian region, the dominant river crayfish communities in the region are formed by the Red Book broad-toed crayfish, the ban on which is in effect throughout the year.

Also in Odesa region, the ban has been in place in the Dniester Estuary, the Dniester River, the Turunchuk River arm, the Dniester floodplain lake, and the Kuchurhan Reservoir since February 25.

The State Fisheries Agency reminds that crayfish fishing during this period is punishable by an administrative fine to criminal liability. In addition, the offender will have to pay damages in the amount of UAH 3,332 for each crayfish caught.
