Feast of the Pochayiv Icon of the Mother of God and the day of remembrance of the martyrs Trofim and Theophilus

According to the new (New Julian) calendar, on July 23, one of the most famous Ukrainian shrines is honored - the miraculous Pochayiv Icon, as well as the early Christian martyrs Trofim and Theophilus are remembered.

Among the people, this holiday was often called "Trofim the Sleepless." The name is associated with the height of the harvest, when peasants worked in the fields from dawn until late at night, having practically no time for rest.

For those who adhere to the old (Julian) calendar: on July 23, the memory of St. Anthony of the Caves, founder of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and father of domestic monasticism, is honored.

In folk tradition, the day was called "Anthony the Thunderbearer." People listened carefully to the thunder: if it was muffled, they expected quiet rain, and if it was loud and sharp, they prepared for a heavy downpour.

A liturgy was held at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra on the occasion of the 975th anniversary of the shrine's founding11.07.26, 01:53
