Ukraine expects the first batches of shells from the Czech initiative in April. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a telethon, a correspondent of UNN reports.

"At the moment, we are expecting the first batches of the Czech initiative in April. This is very fast, because these are shells that they collect around the world... We will have them on the battlefield in the near future. This is important because we are interested in the speed, quality and timeliness of delivery," said Shmyhal.

In addition, he noted that the European initiative to supply one million shells is part of the 5 billion announced in the Fund for Supporting Ukraine, which is a separate area.

"This is an additional resource that Ukraine will also have this year. The relevant schedule is being worked out now," Shmyhal said.

Addendum

Earlier, Shmyhal reportedthat Ukraine hopes to have enough ammunition for its military, which is short  of shells, to repel Russian troops by April.

The Czech President saidthat the total amount for the purchase of 800 thousand shells for Ukraine has been collected.

A senior Czech official said that the first deliveries are expected no later than June. The Czech Republic also found an opportunity to purchase another 200,000 artillery shells for Ukraine.

Earlier this month, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg saidthat Ukraine is running out of ammunition in its war against Russia and that the allies are not doing enough to help Kyiv. This comes as a bill to continue providing aid to Ukraine is stalled in the US Congress amid partisan debate.
