In Poltava region, in the village of Nekhvoroscha, a smashed car with the bodies of two men was found in a ditch. The police opened a criminal investigation, UNN reports.
The accident was reported on January 1 at about 09:30. Law enforcement officers identified the victims. They were local men.
In the course of initial investigative actions, it was preliminarily established that a VAZ 2109 driven by a 21-year-old resident of the village of Nekhvoroshcha slid into a ditch and collided with a tree. As a result of the collision, the driver of the car and his 20-year-old passenger, a resident of the Nekhvoroshcha community, died on the spot.
Rescuers used special equipment to help the men get out of the mangled car. Investigators sent the bodies of the victims for forensic examination to determine the cause of death.
The investigative unit of the Poltava Police Main Department, under the procedural supervision of the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office, initiated criminal proceedings over the incident under Part 3 of Article 286 (Violation of traffic safety rules that caused the death of several people) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is establishing the circumstances and causes of the accident.
