Truck traffic restricted in Sumy region due to bad weather: what drivers need to know

Traffic restrictions have been introduced in Sumy Oblast due to worsening weather conditions, writes UNN with reference to the Agency for Restoration.

Due to difficult weather conditions (intense snow and black ice), the Restoration Service in Sumy Oblast is introducing restrictions on the movement of trucks and oversized vehicles on certain sections of roads.

Such measures, as stated, are aimed at increasing traffic safety, preventing accidents, traffic jams, and congestion.

In particular, as acting mayor of Sumy Andriy Kobzar reported, "yesterday evening and tonight there was a snowfall in the city."

"The restriction will be in effect on January 30 from 13:00 on public roads of national importance," the agency noted and listed the road sections:

  • N-07 Kyiv - Sumy - Yunakivka on the section km 230+347 - km 296+280 (Nedryhailiv village - Sumy city);
    • N-12 Sumy - Poltava on the section km 10+809 - km 73+690 (Sumy city - Okhtyrka city);
      • N-12-1 bypass of Sumy city on the section km 0+000 - km 19+045.

        The lifting of traffic restrictions, as stated, will be announced additionally.

        Drivers, the agency noted, can wait out the bad weather in designated temporary parking areas for vehicles in the road right-of-ways and near road service facilities.

        According to the agency, difficult weather conditions have been observed on state roads in Ukraine since morning. In western and some central regions, it is snowing in places, in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions - snow with rain, in a number of northern, eastern and southern regions - rain. In Ivano-Frankivsk region, the snow cover reaches up to 20 cm. No significant precipitation was recorded in the rest of the territory. The road surface is mostly wet, in Cherkasy region, black ice has formed in places.

        Wet snow (10-20 cm per day) was recorded on the mountain passes of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, and the surface is wet on the Yablunytskyi and Oryavskyi passes. Road treatment with anti-icing materials is being carried out on certain sections.
