In Italy, in the Apennines, the bodies of two climbers who went missing on Sunday, December 22, on Mount Gran Sasso have been found .
The Gran Sasso (Gran Sasso d'Italia - massif in the mountainous region of Abruzzi (central part of the Apennines). The summit of Corno Grande (2912 m asl) is the highest peak of the Apennine Peninsula.
As noted, experienced climbers Christian Gualdi and Luca Perazzini sent their last desperate call for help on Sunday after being blocked by snow and frost in a gorge at an altitude of 2700 meters.
The search for the climbers continued for several days, supported by a helicopter from the Abruzzo region, with technical specialists from the Alpine rescue services.
The lifeless body of one of the two climbers from Romagna was found this morning, during a Cnsas helicopter overflight of the Gran Sasso area. The second climber was soon identified.
Prior to that, the rescue operation had to be interrupted several times due to a severe storm: 18 rescuers had to spend two nights in shelters at an altitude of 2,100 meters due to strong winds and snowfall.

Luca Perazzini, 42, an electrician, and Christian Gualdi, 48, an entrepreneur and owner of Top Infissi in Savignano sul Rubicone, lived in Santarcangelo di Romagna (Rimini), and they were always friends and united by their passion for the mountains.
The climbers disappeared last Sunday after slipping while descending from Dittissima to the Corno Grande.
“The deaths of Christian Gualdi and Luca Perazzini are a tragedy that strikes the heart of the Santarcangelo di Romagna community and of all of us. Special hugs to their families, friends and the entire Santarcangelo di Romagna. My sincere gratitude to the rescuers who, with courage and dedication, did the impossible to bring Christian and Luca home,” wrote Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of Universities and Research of Italy, on X.
The bodies of Gualdi and Perazzini were transferred by winch to the 118th helicopter, which took off from Aquila, and will be taken to the morgue of the hospital in Teramo, which is responsible for this region, writes Il Resto del Carlino.
