According to a U.S. official, the United States plans to deploy additional F-16 and F-35 fighters from air bases in Europe, as well as additional tanker aircraft.
It is noted that the involvement of additional forces could expand President Donald Trump's options in choosing further actions amid the escalation of the conflict.
Last week, Trump received a briefing in the White House Situation Room on options for intensifying military action. He considered the possibility of capturing Kharg Island — a key Iranian export hub — as well as striking Iranian nuclear facilities in the area of Mount Pikx.
At the same time, Trump has not completely abandoned diplomatic resolution. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated last night that the possibility of returning to negotiations remains open.
