Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the load on the energy system has increased and urged Ukrainians to save electricity, especially during peak evening and morning hours. He said this during a government meeting, and added that reasonable consumption would help avoid scheduled outages, UNN reports.
"Ukraine has entered a stable winter temperature regime. This means that the load on our energy system has increased. And at the same time, the enemy is trying to do as much damage to the Ukrainian energy sector as possible," Shmyhal said.
According to him, the power grid is experiencing a power shortage, which has to be compensated for by attracting emergency assistance from our neighbors.
"Unfortunately, we have already broken two consumption records for the heating season. The highest figures were on December 7 and 11. Today, every Ukrainian can contribute to our energy sustainability. To do this, it is enough to save electricity, especially during peak evening and morning hours. Smart consumption will help balance the power system and avoid scheduled outages," Shmyhal said.
He reminded that Ukrainian solidarity last winter thwarted Russian intentions to plunge Ukraine into darkness.
"I am convinced that we will be able to repeat this victory this year," Shmyhal added.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko saidthat while blackouts could occur if the power grid is critically damaged, any power outages are expected to be temporary.
