The European Commission is going to help Hungary and Slovakia give up Russian oil, European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said during a briefing in Brussels on August 4, UNN reports.

"First of all, our goal is to ban all Russian energy resources from European markets, and we are on track to successfully complete this strategy. Russian oil is subject to sanctions. With the exception of Hungary and Slovakia, and therefore, for the reasons they identified during negotiations on an exemption for them, they have permission," the European Commission spokesperson said.
And they are allowed to import Russian oil, but, of course, we are working closely with both Hungary and Slovakia to help them diversify and give up Russian oil
"And at present they have the opportunity to do so, and we are also simultaneously working on a proposal to ban the import of Russian oil into the EU, and this will be done in the near future," she added.

At present, Russia supplies oil to Hungary and Slovakia through the Druzhba oil pipeline under an exemption from the EU sanctions imposed in connection with the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.
