The organizers of a music festival in Kuala Lumpur have sued the British band The 1975 for breach of contract and damages after its vocalist Matty Healy criticized Malaysia's anti-LGBT laws, which led to the cancellation of the event, UNN reports citing the BBC.
Details
During the band's performance last July, Gili also addressed the audience with a speech full of profanity and kissed one of the band members.
The company behind the festival, Good Vibes, is seeking £1.9 million ($2.4 million) in compensation in the UK High Court for violating performance rules.
Addendum
The BBC notes that homosexual acts are illegal in Malaysia and punishable by 20 years in prison. The festival prohibits discussing politics and religion, swearing, smoking or drinking alcohol on stage.
