Sybiha noted that the interlocutors exchanged views on the current state of nuclear safety in Ukraine and focused separately on the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

We exchanged views on the current situation in the field of nuclear safety in Ukraine, paying particular attention to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Russia’s continued occupation and militarization of the plant remains the main source of risks to nuclear safety

He also highly praised Grossi’s personal involvement and the IAEA’s work in Ukraine, including the agency’s mission at the ZNPP.

During the conversation, the parties also discussed the process of selecting the next UN Secretary-General. They separately considered cooperation within the United Nations and possible joint initiatives and practical areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the IAEA.
