Sovietism with a different political color - a political scientist on the intentions of some MPs to rename Brovary

Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko considers the renaming of Brovary to Brovari to be a subjective initiative of the deputies. He calls for taking into account the opinion of local residents and using European experience when changing the names of settlements.

If the renaming of a settlement does not fall within the scope of decommunization and de-Russification, then the position of the community must be taken into account. Otherwise, it is simply the implementation of a subjective initiative of individual MPs. This opinion on the Verkhovna Rada resolution to rename the city of Brovary to Brovari was expressed by political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko in a commentary to UNN.

Details

According to the political scientist, subjective political expediency often prevails when changing the names of settlements and streets.

If we are not talking about the implementation of legislation on decommunization and de-Russification, I believe that it is extremely wrong to ignore the opinion of community residents and implement such subjective initiatives of individual MPs. We have many such examples, and by the way, we are talking not only about renaming settlements, but also about renaming streets. In Kyiv, for example, we have seen repeatedly the following subjective political preferences at work

- Fesenko noted.

The expert added that it is advisable to use the positive experience of European countries when renaming.

"What is happening now is extreme and it is Sovietism with a different political coloring. There is the experience of many European countries (former Soviet republics and socialist countries - ed.), when, first of all, either historical names, unless they have imperial connotations, or Soviet origin, or names that, let's say, do not cause political controversy, are not ideologized. This is also the right thing to do in Europe," the political scientist summarized.

Optional

Members of the Brovary City Council are convinced that renaming Brovary will lead to unnecessary and unnecessary expenses. In their opinion, these funds would be better spent on supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"I am in favor of the old name of the city of Brovary, which we have now. Such initiatives are absolutely out of time. This is first of all. Secondly, it is financially expensive - seals, plates, etc. This will entail funds that can be easily and better sent to the Armed Forces to help them," Brovary City Council deputy and university lecturer Maksym Tkachenko told UNN in a commentary .

His fellow deputy, business representative Viktor Haidukov, shares the same position.

"All businesses will need to change their documentation. New signs will have to be made in the city. Every resident will have to change everything. No one has calculated, but it is very expensive. These funds can be spent on the Armed Forces and this is much more important today," Gaidukov said in a comment to UNN .

Recall

At an extraordinary session, members of the Brovary City Council almost unanimously approved an appeal to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk with a request not to submit a draft resolution to rename Brovary to Brovari.

This resolution was previously registered by a group of MPs led by Roman Lozynskyi, a representative of the Golos faction.

According to the mayor of Brovary, Ihor Sapozhko, there are three conclusions from scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine that the name "Brovary" is historical and should be preserved.
