Implementation of the unified information policy is a priority for national security, and redirecting funds allocated for the "Single Telethon" and FreeDom TV channel is inappropriate. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, in response to the petition, the author of which proposes to redirect the funds allocated to the "United Telethon" and "FreeDom" channels to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, writes UNN.
Details
The Prime Minister emphasized that according to part four of Article 3 of the Law of Ukraine "On National Security of Ukraine", the state policy in the field of national security and defense is aimed, in particular, at ensuring military, foreign policy, state, economic, information, environmental security, critical infrastructure security, and cybersecurity of Ukraine.
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has established that under martial law, the implementation of a unified information policy is a priority issue of national security, which is ensured by uniting all national TV channels, whose program content consists mainly of news and/or information and analytical programs, on a single information platform of strategic communication - the round-the-clock information marathon "United News #Ukraine Together"
Shmyhal emphasized that ensuring information security is part of the state defense policy, and the implementation of a unified information policy is a priority issue of national security.
According to him, financing of relevant activities is an important component of countering the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, in particular in the information space
Accordingly, it is not appropriate to reallocate the expenditures specified in the petition (funds allocated for the telethon and the FreeDom channel - ed.) by directing them to the needs of other components of the security and defense sector
At the same time, he assured that the government is constantly working with to attract and direct financial, logistical and other resources, including international assistance, to meet the needs and increase the capabilities of the Armed Forces.
Context
In the winter, a petition was posted on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers calling for the funds intended for the United News and FreeDom TV channels to be redirected to finance UAVs and pickup trucks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In April, it received the number of votes necessary for consideration.
Recall
The results of a poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) show that more Ukrainians distrust than trust the United News telethon. As of February 2024, only 36% of Ukrainians surveyed trusted the program.
