In Ukraine, there has been an increase in scams where perpetrators defraud citizens by posing as employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and other law enforcement agencies. The SBU warns about this, UNN reports.
The Security Service of Ukraine is recording an increase in the number of fraudulent schemes in which perpetrators pose as law enforcement officers. In particular, they introduce themselves as officials of the SBU and other state structures,
The SBU emphasizes that the main goal of these scams is to deceive citizens and seize their funds.
The report specifies that the perpetrators contact a person and first intimidate them with fabricated criminal cases regarding alleged high treason, financing of the Russian Federation, or the purchase of prohibited goods.
To increase the pressure, the scammers often send a fake subpoena-summons for interrogation via messenger,
Subsequently, as the Ukrainian special service informs, the scammers offer a way to avoid punishment, and for this, in most cases, they demand to transfer or hand over money "for verification" or "to avoid criminal liability."
The Security Service of Ukraine once again urges citizens to be vigilant.
Record the data of the persons who contacted you. Write down the phone number from which the call was received, and save screenshots of the messages. Do not share confidential data of your bank cards and do not make urgent money transfers,
The SBU also urges people to verify all available information and use only official sources: the Service's website – ssu.gov.ua, and verified social media pages.
If you have become a target of such extortion or received a suspicious message from a person posing as an SBU employee, contact immediately: the hotline at: 1516, email: callcenter@ssu.gov.ua, sbu_cu@ssu.gov.ua, or the chatbot "Burn the FSB agent": t.me/spaly_fsb_bot
The SBU emphasizes that they operate exclusively within the framework of current Ukrainian legislation and for the safety of every Ukrainian.
