Ukraine may refuse to maintain a list of "international sponsors of war" due to pressure from China and France, Reuters reports, citing sources, UNN reports .
Details
According to the publication, Ukraine may close the website where the list is published.
One of the agency's interlocutors claims that Austria and Hungary also put pressure on the Ukrainian authorities in this regard. Another source explained that all of these countries were unhappy that their companies were included in the list, even though they support Ukraine.
According to the newspaper, the blacklist has no legal basis, but it has become an obstacle for about 50 large companies that have been operating in Russia and helping the Kremlin in the war in Ukraine, for example, by paying taxes.
The closure of the site, according to Reuters, will indicate how Kyiv may have to soften its stance.
This is China, but not only China
Beijing, which is a major consumer of Ukrainian grain, demanded in February that Kyiv remove 14 Chinese companies from the list to "eliminate the negative impact.
While China is seen as an ally of Russia, Kyiv has said it hopes the world's second largest economy will attend a summit of world leaders this spring to promote President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's vision of peace.
For reference
The register of "international sponsors of war" is a list of companies and individuals who continue to trade with Russia and do not leave its market amid a full-scale war in Ukraine. As of March 2024, the register includes more than 150 individuals and more than 40 companies.
