Pro-russian candidate Peter Pellegrini has won the presidential election in Slovakia, receiving 53% of the vote in the second round. This was reported by The New York Times, according to UNN.
Details
After 99 percent of the votes were counted, pro-russian candidate Peter Pellegrini, who is an ally of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, won the presidential election in Slovakia.
His victory with 53 percent of the vote in the second round of elections strengthens Central Europe's ties to moscow.
Former Foreign Minister Ivan Korchok, a strong supporter of Ukraine and a critic of Mr. Fico, was defeated. Korczok actively opposed pro-russian policies and criticized Fico's cooperation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
