The U.S. Department of Defense has signed a $1.45 billion contract with Northrop Grumman to supply nine E-2 Advanced Hawkeye radar detection aircraft. Five aircraft are intended for Japan and four for the U.S. Navy. This is stated on the Pentagon's website, reports UNN.

Delivery is scheduled for 2029. The contract includes additional maintenance. The aircraft will be manufactured in Indiana, California, New York and Florida.

The E-2D Hawkeye is an all-weather, long-range tactical deck-mounted aircraft. It is equipped with a rotating antenna capable of tracking multiple targets and a friend-or-foe recognition system.
