The battle for the village of Moshchun, located northwest of Kyiv, was of great importance for the defense of the capital - if Russian troops had advanced, Ukrainian defenders would have had to prepare to repel the enemy's attack in the city center. However, the defenders managed to neutralize the enemy's efforts in time.
This was reported by UNN with reference to an interview with the commander of the Land Forces Oleksandr Pavliuk on ICTV.
When asked when the Russian offensive on Kyiv and the Kyiv region was broken, Oleksandr Pavliuk answered as follows:
It was Moshchun. On the 19th and 20th, there were decisive battles for this settlement, it was the foothold from which there was a huge threat to Kyiv. If they had developed their offensive, we would have had to fight for the streets of Kyiv. But we managed to blow up the dam, wash away all the bridges they had set up to transfer their main forces and destroy that Russian unit, which stopped the attempt to launch an offensive. They had no additional resources to continue, because they were all in the east.
According to the Land Forces commander, the eastern group was also able to hold out, despite the fact that the calculations and the ratio of forces and means suggested a period of no more than a week.
But the Russians were forced to pull together the Kharkiv group and the southern group, but they no longer had the resources.

The Russian armed forces had realistic plans to capture Kyiv in three days, but their plans were thwarted by the unexpected resistance and professional actions of the Ukrainian defenders under the command of General Syrsky.
