The choice of O'Brien to host the ceremony came as a real surprise, as his name was not mentioned in the list of possible hosts of the Oscars 2025. Earlier, sources noted that the Academy was leaning toward a format in which there were several presenters. They also considered the option of having Deadpool and Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman host the ceremony. However, Reynolds called it unlikely at the time.
