Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban opposes the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, citing concerns about Hungary's interests and possible unintended consequences. He also calls for the restoration of rights previously granted to Hungarians in Ukraine.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban says he is blocking the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union, as it is not in his country's interests. Orbán said this during a parliamentary debate on a draft resolution on Ukraine, Portfolio.hureports , UNN reports.

Details

According to him, the issue of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU should be decided in the light of whether it is beneficial for Hungary. In addition, he is convinced that rapid accession could have unpredictable consequences.

Ukraine's accession under the fast-track procedure is not in the interests of either Hungary or the EU. If the EU rules are not taken seriously, the EU will cease to exist

At the same time, he reiterated that in 2015 Ukraine deprived Hungarians of rights they had previously enjoyed.

Give these rights back. We are not asking for a new law, we are asking Ukraine to restore the previous law

- the Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized.

Addendum

He also expressed concern that the EU allowed Ukraine to import agricultural products and canceled the system of permits for carriers, which is harmful to Hungary's interests.

We are not talking about Ukraine's accession yet, but tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of Hungarians may lose their livelihoods

 - Orban complained.

To recap,

During his visit to Paris, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban once again emphasized Ukraine's corruption and opposed the start of negotiations on its accession to the EU. At the same time , he proposed to conclude a strategic partnership agreement.
