The number of court cases increased by almost one and a half times in 2023, with the largest growth in administrative and civil cases. Most often, Ukrainians sue in cases related to utilities and pensions.
Last year, the number of open court cases increased by almost 46% compared to 2022, exceeding more than 2.1 million. The largest growth was observed in administrative and civil cases - by 41% and 65% respectively.
The courts mostly considered civil transactions, with the largest number of cases involving utility debts (321,000) and divorce (121,000). In general, courts that heard cases on utility debts remain the most active among all court proceedings.
More than 80 thousand civil cases in courts concerned loans. In the area of administrative cases, the most common were complaints about pensions - almost 319 thousand. It is worth noting that 10% of all administrative cases concerned claims for pension insurance for Chornobyl victims.
Commercial disputes arise in business and are brought to court. However, they did not even make it to the top 10 among the total number of cases. In 2023, the first and second places in the commercial courts were taken by cases on writ proceedings (almost 10 thousand) and claims for the supply of goods, works and services (approximately 10 thousand), as well as energy supplies (almost 7 thousand).
Last year's criminal proceedings were dominated by thefts (30 thousand). Cases on the cancellation of property seizure (over 15 thousand) and on drugs without the purpose of sale (14.5 thousand) are noteworthy.
