After lengthy delays, the rocket with four astronauts launched from Florida. The crew will make a ten-day flight around the Moon without landing on the surface.

On Wednesday, April 1, after years of delays, the historic mission of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Artemis II to the Moon began. This was reported by UNN.

Details

This is the first human flight to the Moon in over 50 years, which could open a new era of crewed missions.

The rocket was launched from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. Flight control is carried out from the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

For reference

Artemis II was initially planned to launch in February, but the mission was delayed due to a hydrogen leak. After that, another technical problem was discovered – a clogged helium line, which temporarily returned the rocket to the hangar. Later, it was again taken to the launch pad.

The crew of 4 astronauts embarked on an almost 10-day flight around the Moon and will return to Earth without landing on its surface. After a day in Earth orbit, the Orion capsule is to set course for the Moon, perform a flyby, and complete the mission by splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.

This is the first human flight to the Moon since 1972.
