In the first half of the year, 73,292 children were born in Ukraine. At the same time, 259,853 deaths were recorded — this is the first official increase in the number of deaths in the last 5 years. This indicates that mortality is four times higher than the birth rate, reports UNN citing Opendatabot.

Details

Currently, on average, about 12,000 babies are born in Ukraine every month. In comparison, 10 years ago, about 32,000 children were brought into the world. Slightly more boys are born: 51% versus 49% girls.

The worst situation is in the frontline regions. In Donetsk region, the ratio is 1 to 19, in Kherson region — 14, in Sumy, Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions — 1 to 6.

The most optimistic situation is in Rivne, Volyn and Zakarpattia regions — there are 2 deaths per 1 newborn.

Reminder

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, the demographic crisis in Kyiv has become particularly noticeable. The birth rate is affected by a number of factors caused by the war: migration processes, lack of confidence in the future, changes in gender roles and family models — men at the front, women alone, economic factors and health.
