Forty-three monkeys escaped from a complex used for medical research in South Carolina, USA. The South Carolina police warned residents of the area to keep their doors and windows closed. Later, the local police chief stated that there was "almost no risk".

"They are not infected with any diseases. "They are harmless and a little shy," Yemassee Police Chief Gregory Alexander said Thursday morning.

Rhesus monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis laboratory on Wednesday after a new employee failed to fully lock the primate enclosure. Alpha Genesis employees "have already located the primates and are attempting to lure them with food," police said in a statement released around noon on Thursday.
