The Cabinet of Ministers has amended the Rules of the Road, allowing mopeds and motorcycles to travel in the lane for route vehicles. This was announced by the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk in Telegram, reports UNN.
Details
"Amendments have been made to the Rules of the Road. The right to travel in the lane for route vehicles in the same direction as the general flow of vehicles has been granted to mopeds and motorcycles (except for motorcycles with a sidecar, motor wheelchairs, and three-wheeled vehicles)," Melnychuk said.
According to him, the content of information and indication signs 5.8 "Road with a lane for route vehicles" and 5.11 "Lane for route vehicles" has been clarified accordingly.
"From now on, paragraph 2.16 clearly states that drivers of motorcycles (except for motorcycles with a sidecar, motor wheelchairs, and three-wheeled vehicles) can travel in the lane for route vehicles. The same right was granted to moped drivers, which is enshrined in subparagraph "b" of this paragraph," Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, explained the changes to the traffic rules in Telegram.
According to him, the initiative aims to:
- reduce traffic jams in large cities, as two-wheeled transport will be able to move more freely on the roads;
- increase the safety of moped and motorcycle riders and other road users while driving in dense traffic;
- harmonize Ukrainian legislation with the practices of EU countries, where a similar decision has long been successfully implemented in many countries.
Addition
Prior to this decision, according to paragraph 17.1 of the Traffic Regulations of Ukraine, on a road with a lane for route vehicles, marked with road sign 5.11, the movement and stopping of other vehicles in this lane were prohibited.
Information and indication sign 5.11 "Lane for route vehicles" indicates a lane intended for the movement of vehicles traveling on established routes, and cyclists, if traffic on such a lane is carried out in the same direction as the general flow of vehicles.
According to part 3 of Article 122 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, the fine for being in a public transport lane is 680 hryvnias.
Recall
From April 1 to November 1, 2025, on certain sections of roads in Kyiv, the speed has been increased to 80 km/h, and in Dnipro – to 70 km/h. Autofixation cameras are set to the new speed.
