The Ministry of Education and Science has approved new recommendations for assessing the learning outcomes of students in grades 5-9. In particular, the evaluation criteria have four levels, each of which consists of 3 points, which in total give 12. UNN reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Education.

Details

The document, in particular, defines:

  • general assessment criteria (define general approaches to determining student learning outcomes);
  • evaluation criteria by educational fields.

Reportedly, the evaluation criteria have four levels (each subsequent level covers the requirements of the previous one and adds new ones). One level consists of 3 points, which in total give 12 points.

  • initial (1-3 points);
  • average (4-6 points);
  • sufficient (7-9 points);
  • high (10-12 points).

The recommendations provide a description of each point of the grading scale. In addition, the document proposes a form of a student's certificate of achievement. As noted, if necessary, schools can make changes to it to make it more closely match the educational program of the educational institution and the needs of the students.

The certificate of achievement consists of two parts:

1. Characterization of learning activities. Here, teachers assess the level of development of cross-cutting skills at the end of the school year. These include reading comprehension, expressing one's own opinion, critical and systematic thinking, initiative, etc.

There are no grades in this section. The teacher only determines one of the levels of development of a particular skill: "Has significant success", "Demonstrates noticeable progress", "Needs attention and help". Teachers can fill in this part of the certificate collectively or the class teacher can do it.

2. Characterization of learning outcomes. In this section, points are assigned for academic subjects/integrated courses each semester and for the year. First, the teacher assigns a score for the individual groups of learning outcomes defined in the State Standard of Basic Education. After that, he/she calculates the overall grade for the semester.

The teacher assigns a grade for each of these groups of learning outcomes. The overall grade for the semester is formed on the basis of four grades by outcome groups, and the annual grade is formed on the basis of semester grades.

For example:

The Ukrainian language has the following groups of learning outcomes:

  • interacts orally;
  • works with text;
  • interacts in writing;
  • studies speech.

The form of the Certificate of Achievement is available at the links (.docx.pdf).

"Given the different educational needs of students and the deepening of educational losses and gaps, we recommend that teachers flexibly assess student learning outcomes. Approaches to assessment in different classes of a general secondary education institution may differ, aimed at implementing the educational program of the educational institution and teacher autonomy," the Ministry of Education added.
