In the state of Queensland in northeastern Australia, a shark fatally injured a 39-year-old man who was spearfishing near a reef. This was reported by the BBC, according to UNN.

The attack occurred on Sunday off the Cassowary Coast between the cities of Cairns and Townsville. According to police, the man was pulled from the water by his companions, but he could not be saved. He died from a severe head injury.
Police Inspector Elaine Burns reported that the man was in the water near Kennedy Shoal along with other members of a spearfishing group.
"He was pulled from the water by another person who was with him in the water during the attack,"
According to Burns, the man was pronounced dead after the boat returned to shore approximately an hour later.
This is the second fatal shark attack in Australia in recent weeks. Last Saturday, a 38-year-old man who was also spearfishing died near Perth in Western Australia. Queensland police are preparing a report for the coroner regarding the "sudden and non-suspicious" death.
