On Tuesday, December 17, combat readiness checks of the National Armed Forces (NAF) units are taking place throughout Lithuania, DELFI reports with reference to the NAF, UNN reports.

Reportedly, the purpose of the inspection is to test and improve the procedures and combat readiness of the units by practicing their response capabilities.
During the combat readiness test, military equipment and personnel of the country's armed forces will be deployed to different locations in Latvia to perform assigned tasks.
The NAF emphasized that the combat readiness inspection is a pre-planned but unexpected event for the units involved. The inspection is not related to changes in the security situation or other security-related events. .
The NAF explained that the defense of Latvia and preservation of its independence is a shared responsibility of the entire society, which includes readiness for action.
It is up to each citizen to decide whether to join the professional service in the Zemesserdze, or to take a basic military training course to become a reservist, or to do their job responsibly and take care of their neighbors, adds DELFI.
Lithuania will make the largest purchase of German Leopard-2 tanks in the country's history. It is planned to purchase 44 tanks.
