According to reports by local media about the proposed agreement between Iran and Oman on managing this extremely important waterway, Iran will seek to ban U.S. and Israeli vessels from passing through the Strait of Hormuz and will demand that hostile countries pay compensation before they are allowed to use it.
The agreement has become a key factor in expectations for the resumption of operations in the Strait of Hormuz and the restoration of energy supplies, which were restricted following the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran in February.
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which operated freely before the war, has become the main sticking point in the deadlock in relations between the United States and Iran, which has lasted for several months, even despite the easing of hostilities. The Fars agency, citing an informed source in Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the draft agreement with Oman provides for Iran's control over vessels entering the Strait of Hormuz, while their exit would be jointly controlled by both countries. Under the draft, transit would take place through the "central corridor," while traffic along the other two routes, which are currently used on a limited basis, would cease within "certain time frames."
