According to the publication, voter turnout after processing results from 99.5% of participants was 16.1%, and for the referendum to be recognized as valid, at least 50% of citizens registered on the voter lists had to participate.
The provision on lifetime payments to the head of government after his resignation appeared in Slovakia in 2024 following an assassination attempt on Robert Fico, in which the prime minister sustained serious injuries. Until 2024, lifetime payments in Slovakia were provided only for former presidents of the country
