The Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kyiv the former head of the Republican Committee of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea for Fuel, Energy and Innovation Policy, who after the occupation of the peninsula went over to the side of russia and headed the occupation "ministry" of fuel and energy of Crimea. According to the special service, after the temporary occupation of Crimea in 2014, the suspect obtained russian citizenship and offered his services to the occupation authorities.
Later, the russian-appointed head of the peninsula, sergey aksyonov, appointed him the so-called "minister of fuel and energy of the Republic of Crimea".
In this position, he helped the occupation administration establish control over the strategic energy infrastructure of the peninsula.
In particular, this concerns the Simferopol and Sevastopol thermal power plants, the Tavriyska thermal power plant, a network of solar and wind power plants, gas pipelines, gas compressor stations, oil depots and oil terminals in Kerch and Feodosia.
For two years after his appointment, he was engaged in the integration and re-registration of Crimean energy assets in accordance with the legislation of the russian federation
After being dismissed from the occupation "government", the man continued to work in the interests of the kremlin, heading a number of enterprises in the extractive industry.
Law enforcement officers detained him in Kyiv, where he had arrived to attend to personal matters.
During searches at his place of residence, russian passports, bank cards and documents were seized, which, according to the investigation, confirm his activities in favor of the aggressor state.
SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason.
He is currently in custody without the right to bail.
If found guilty, he faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
