Heavy rains in Kenya have caused large-scale flooding, resulting in the deaths of 18 people over the past week. This was reported by the Associated Press, according to UNN.

According to police, most of the deaths are related to drowning. The Ministry of Interior noted that more than 54,000 households have been affected by the disaster, including about 6,000 in the capital, Nairobi.
Floods have submerged dozens of schools and hospitals, and led to the closure of at least 17 roads across the country.
Landslides have forced thousands of people to flee their homes in the western part of the Rift Valley. Meanwhile, residents in areas along the Tana and Athi rivers are being urged to evacuate to higher ground due to rising water levels.
Forecast
The Meteorological Department warned that intense rainfall will continue at least through the first two weeks of May.
Kenya's rainy season began in March, and as of the end of that month, more than 100 people had died due to the severe weather.
